“Nutrition for healthy childhood”

Nepal Red Cross Society have been implementing CBHFA (Community based health and first aid) in Palpa and Arghakhanchi with the financial and technical support of Australian Red Cross since June, 2017.With an objective of awareness on child health after series of maternal and child health awareness session, “Healthy baby competition” was held in the project area by NRCS Arghakhanchi District Chapter on 16th Baisakh 2076. Total 98 children under 5-year age group participated.
The team of health worker from the health pot of Sandhikharka-4 assessed the height, weight, Mid Upper Arm Circumference, Personal hygiene status, diseases status of the child in last 6 months, immunization and food habit of the children (breastfeeding practice /weaning) to see the health status of the child. Mr. Vinod Pandey, the head of the Sandhikharka-4 health post said “It is very effective to do this kind of health activities. As we see parents are gathered here, it helps in raising awareness and also help us to evaluate if our health promotion activities are being effective”. 3 children were selected to be prized for the competition by the health team. The children were given healthy foods (Eggs, Sarwatam pitho) and hygiene kit of baby as a token of motivation. At the end, maternal and child health related nutrition awareness session was conducted. Out of 98 children 1 was seen to have “Severe Acute malnutrition” and 3 with “Moderate Acute Malnutrition”, reflecting the further need to scale up the concern towards maternal and child health.
The identified children will be in track with regular follow-up by the Female community health Volunteer (FCHV) and CBHFA volunteers and 1 sever case is planned to be referred to Butwal for further treatment by the joint effort of CBHFA cluster committee and ward office. Mr.Chabilal Pandey, president of cluster committee CBHFA-Bangla says ” We feel good that these kind of health activities are brought to our village, we have got training on maternal and child health and many other, it is now our responsibility to promote health of our people.”
